Happy Days the champion boat at Weipa Billfish Tournament
CONDITIONS were far from ideal for the long weekend’s Hastings Deering Weipa Billfish Tournament, but that didn’t stop the die-hard locals and visitors.
Over the three days, 20 billfish were tagged by anglers. As the wind and rough seas eased, the fishing improved.
Just one sailfish was tagged on the Saturday.
Nine sailfish were tagged on both Sunday and Monday, while a 10th gamefish was added on the final day when Emmi Roberts raised the only marlin of the tournament.
The champion team was Happy Days, comprising Darryl and Simone French, Britt Baumann and Tege Witcher.
At the presentation night, club president Gaven Roberts thanked participants and sponsors for supporting the event in what had been an uncertain year.
